A happy Norm enjoying some unexpected outdoor time this week since we had unseasonably warm and dry weather! We got so lucky that my parents were visiting this week and we got to spend lots of time outside. We definitely weren't ready for my parents or the good weather to leave 😔

My next handspun project is plied, finished, and ready for casting on!! I'm still really enjoying the feeling of improvement every time I sit down at the wheel, and this project is no exception! I can even tell a big difference between my first ply (grey BFL) and second (cream Merino)! This was also my first project on my new wheel!

I'm planning to cast on a basic ribbed hat using this yarn held with a cream brushed suri. This is my first handspun I'm knitting with and I seriously cannot wait!

Next up - spinning for socks!

My #PortSweater is done and oh boy am I in love! I've worn it almost every day since I finished it. Another matching knit with @what.maya.made, this project came together SO QUICKLY and was an absolute joy to knit! I loved knitting it and I love wearing it now! And I think the yarn choice was just perfect for this dark teal loving phase I'm in right now (is it a phase though?? or is this love forever?)

I'd like to take a moment to romanticize my new 🐞✨️ladybug✨️🐞 spinning wheel. Somewhat unexpectedly I was able to purchase this beauty from @northwestyarns at Red Alder a couple weeks ago and I am already so in love! It's been a busy time but I've still found time to spin (including 3 straight hours on the day I brought it home).

I've already got tons of fiber and projects planned, can't wait to share more as I go!! I have to of course shout out my spinning inspiration and answerer of my constant questions - @what.maya.made who happily answered my video call with the request that she "listen to my wheel it's making a weird noise" 😅 Literally could not do this without you!!

Yesterday was such an incredible day!! @what.maya.made and I took our new matching sweaters for a spin in Portland for the Rose City Yarn Crawl. We had such an incredible time, and as a consequence took very few photos! But luckily we snapped a few of us in our matching #PortSweater before heading out. I'm so in love with this sweater by @ozetta and will definitely share more about it soon!!

Other pics include our fiber swapping and sorting shenanigans and my RCYC acquisitions. I picked up the gorgeous rusty red @litlg from @knotty_lamb to pair with some yarn I had in stash and even without that yarn with me it turned out to be the perfect fit!!

The swatch has been blocked, yarn is all caked up, and I'm casting on a new design! This palette in @purlsoho Linen Quill is one of my very favorites and I cannot wait to see it come together 😊

I had a sprint with some design and pattern work at the end of last year so I've been giving myself some time to get the energy and inspiration back and I can definitely say - it's back! Can't wait to share more as I work through this one.

I went to my second spinning class on Sunday and learned to ply! After plying the little bit of singles I had from class, I moved to some singles I had spun up from @wee.chickadee BFL and made my first lil handspun skein of yarn. It's not a full skein, and there are lots of issues with it, but I'm really, really proud of it.

I'm at a really exciting part of the learning curve where every single time I sit down at the wheel I see improvement. The world of spinning is overwhelming and exciting and I'm really happy to get started 😊

Up next: spinning my singles to a consistent thickness!
